Company profile
Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) is a private company listed on the stock exchange that specializes in the design, manufacture, maintenance and supply of rolling stock for the rail industry.
The constant growth and international expansion has significantly increased the company’s business turnover, present in more than 25 countries with 45 urban transport projects throughout the world (high speed, intercity, suburban, underground, tram and light underground).
Research and Development is a priority for CAF, which has technological centers in Beasain, Zaragoza, Linares, Bizkaia, Castejón and Madrid (Spain).
CAF is betting on developing its own high-speed technology, investing heavily on research. As a result of this technological plan, CAF has manufactured for RENFE a wide range of high-speed and intercity variable-gauge units. Moreover, the company has become the first Spanish company to export high-speed technology to Turkey.
This experience, together with the leadership of the research project CENIT AVI 2015, has enabled the development of the new platform “Oaris”, a 350 km/h high-speed model train which is currently in its advanced manufacturing stage, and will be on track this year.
With Oaris high speed train, incorporating state-of-the-art technology, CAF will compete in the emerging international market to offer the best solutions to the different demands of this transportation mode all over the world.
The company also provides innovative, quality and efficient products with a clear orientation towards the customer. With the experience acquired over the last few years, CAF has developed a new generation of trams and light rail trains: URBOS 3.
One of the main novelties in the third-generation series of trams and light rails URBOS is the Rapid Charge Accumulator (ACR), an innovative on-board energy storage system that eliminates the need for catenary cables between stops in urban areas.
The “Rapid Charge Accumulator” (ACR), based on ultracapacitor technology, will allow vehicles to circulate without cables between stops. Furthermore, no special facilities or extra investment are required.
This unprecedented highly-innovative technology will contribute to the better integration of urban transportation within cities, by reducing the environmental and visual impact in historic city centers and increasing energy efficiency.
